Martin is out in the world! I’ll try to avoid all car-related metaphors about ‘driving sales’ or ‘gearing up for success’… Suffice to say that I’m delighted that my second novel is available for readers to digest. I actually wrote the first word for MARTIN in November 2017 — something that I found truly shocking. I had a vague idea in my mind’s eye that it was approximately two years. It really does show how the creative process can be a long and convoluted journey. The manuscript has been assessed by no fewer than two literary consultants, four beta readers, and a variety of critique groups. It’s exhausting to have to constantly revisit the text and try to say what you want to say but in the best and most efficient way possible. I’ve learned (well, I hope I have) so much about characterisation, plotting and self-editing. Writing, when it’s going well, is an exhilarating experience where characters seem to have a life of their own and the story develops in ways that seem almost out of one’s control. I’m really pleased with MARTIN — it all started with a dream/nightmare and here we are, four years later. So, sit in, buckle up. It’s going to be a bumpy ride! (Couldn’t resist the metaphors in the end).
All the best,
Paul
